Overview

Communication guide
Use voice to coordinate, not to drown everyone out.
Holdfast gives you proximity VoIP, text chat, command wheels, class-specific orders, roleplay shouts, naval phrases, and the loudhailer. The best players keep callouts short and useful.
Main ruleShort, clear callouts beat constant noise.

VoIP

Holdfast uses proximity voice chat. Nearby allies and enemies can hear you, so your voice can coordinate a line, rally a ship, bait an enemy, or accidentally give away a plan.

Action Notes
Push-to-talk Hold the assigned voice key or controller button. Console players should use Game Chat, not Party Chat, when they want in-game VoIP.
Mute players Use the scoreboard / round players menu to mute disruptive players.
P menu Later releases added reporting and player highlighting when opening the menu while looking at someone.
Loudhailer Frontlines 2.0 added the loudhailer for barking orders or hailing from farther away.

Voice chat is clearer than it used to be, and the loudhailer is less overpowering after audio tuning.

Command Wheel

Voice phrases include infantry orders, artillery calls, naval phrases, cheers, insults, compliments, surrender, salute, formation commands, and roleplay lines. Players see these through command wheels and class-specific menus.

For related systems, see Orders, User Interface, Naval Combat, and Roleplay.

Troubleshooting

If voice chat is not working, start with Known Issues & Solutions. The most common checks are:

  • Switch console party settings from Party Chat to Game Chat.
  • Check operating system microphone permissions.
  • Make sure the correct microphone is selected.
  • Test without overlays or audio-routing software.
  • On PC, check the F2 console and save logs if there are red errors.
  • On Xbox, clearing Alternate MAC Address can reset the VoIP handshake.
