|title=VoIP

Holdfast utilises a spatialised proximity voice system. Audio volume scales based on your physical distance from other players; notably, this includes enemy combatants.
Holdfast uses proximity voice chat. Nearby allies and enemies can hear you, so your voice can coordinate a line, rally a ship, bait an enemy, or accidentally give away a plan.

Important: The game strictly utilises Push-to-Talk (PTT). There is no "Open Mic" or "Toggle" functionality available, to ensure a clean acoustic environment.

Voice phrases include infantry orders, artillery calls, naval phrases, cheers, insults, compliments, surrender, salute, formation commands, and roleplay lines. Players see these through command wheels and class-specific menus.

For related systems, see Orders, User Interface, Naval Combat, and Roleplay.

If you are currently in an Xbox Live Party or PlayStation Party, the in-game PTT system may be overridden by the console's OS. To resolve this:
Common command-wheel uses:

* Priority Settings: Switch the console party setting from "Party Chat" to "Game Chat."
* Tell a line to fire, hold, charge, retreat, or form up.
* System Override: On certain firmware versions, holding the PTT button (Y / Triangle) may bypass party chat, but switching to Game Chat is the most reliable method for consistent communication.
* Call for a medic, help, or a target adjustment.
* Cheer, taunt, compliment, insult, surrender, or salute.
* Give naval calls for sails, guns, broadsides, repairs, boats, and boarding.
