Overview

Frontlines brings Holdfast into the First World War, fought between the Allied Powers and the Central Powers. The classes below are exclusive to the Frontlines (WW1) game type and its two factions. While many share their traits and abilities with their Nations at War counterparts, they fight with an entirely different arsenal — bolt-action rifles, trench guns, revolvers, grenades, and clubs from the Weapons page — across trench networks, machine gun emplacements, and the other Frontlines defences.

Line Infantry

The backbone of the Frontlines armies. Armed with a bolt-action rifle and bayonet, the WW1 line infantryman fights across no man's land, holding trenches and pushing objectives under the orders of his Officers.

Army Infantry Officer

The infantry officers govern the course of battles on the Western Front. They are able to issue Orders to organise their troops, and provide bonuses to men who follow them. Armed with a revolver and officer's sword, they lead pushes out of the trench in person. They can be distinguished from other soldiers due to the cross icon on the mini-map.

Surgeons

Surgeons selflessly run across the battlefield to tend to the wounds of injured comrades. A health bar appears above any injured men, allowing them to prioritise their triage. Don't be fooled, however, in thinking that these men have taken an oath to do no harm. Armed with a revolver, they can rapidly turn their coats red with the blood of their foes. Surgeons stand out on the mini-map with a different icon.

Sappers

Sappers provide support for the fighting forces by building defensive structures and emplacements. In Frontlines this means sandbags, barbed wire, machine gun platforms, ammo boxes, and the other trench works that define the Great War battlefield.

The carpenters, in contrast to the sappers, are a destructive force who excel at destroying enemy emplacements.

Cannoneers

Cannoneers excel at manning the artillery of the Great War — howitzers, heavy howitzers, heavy mortars, deck guns, and coast guns. They can equip a ramrod to provide a +5% speed bonus to ramming.
