Critical Known Issues (PC & Console)

Game Crashes on Launch

  • Verify game files via Steam (see Essential Diagnostics above).
  • Ensure your GPU drivers are up to date.
  • Try running the game in DirectX 11 mode by adding -force-d3d11 to Steam launch options.
  • Disable any overlays (Discord, NVIDIA GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner).

Black Screen on Startup

  • Press Alt+Enter to toggle windowed mode.
  • Delete the game's config folder and relaunch to regenerate default settings.
  • Disable fullscreen optimizations: right-click the game executable → Properties → Compatibility → check "Disable fullscreen optimizations."

Disconnected from Server / Timeout

  • Check your internet connection and restart your router.
  • Ensure no firewall or antivirus is blocking the game.
  • Try connecting to a different server to rule out server-side issues.

Console-Specific Issues

  • Xbox: If the game freezes, perform a full console restart (hold power button for 10 seconds).
  • PlayStation: Clear the console cache by powering off completely (not rest mode) for 30 seconds.
  • Ensure your console firmware is up to date.

Steam Related Issues

Game Not Launching from Steam

  • Restart Steam completely (close from system tray).
  • Clear Steam's download cache: Settings → Downloads → Clear Download Cache.
  • Reinstall the Visual C++ Redistributables from the game's install folder (_CommonRedist directory).

Workshop Mods Causing Issues

  • Unsubscribe from all Workshop items and test if the issue persists.
  • Re-subscribe to mods one at a time to identify the culprit.

EAC (Easy Anti-Cheat) Errors

  • Navigate to the game's install folder and run the EAC setup tool manually.
  • Ensure no third-party software is interfering with EAC (certain RGB or macro software may trigger false positives).

Game Tips

Improving Performance

  • Lower Shadow Quality and View Distance for the biggest FPS gains.
  • Set Texture Quality to Medium if you have less than 8 GB VRAM.
  • Disable V-Sync and use your GPU's control panel to cap frame rate instead.

Reducing Latency

  • Connect via Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi when possible.
  • Choose servers closest to your geographic region.
  • Close bandwidth-heavy applications (streaming, downloads) while playing.

Audio Issues

  • Ensure your default audio output device is correctly set in Windows/Console settings.
  • In-game VoIP requires a microphone to be connected before launching the game.

Server-Side Issues

Cannot Find Servers

  • Refresh the server browser multiple times — the list populates incrementally.
  • Check if the game's master server is online via the official Discord announcements.
  • Ensure your game is updated to the latest version.

High Ping / Rubberbanding

  • Connect to servers in your region.
  • If the server is community-hosted, the issue may be on the host's end — try a different server.

Server Administration

  • For server hosting guides and configuration, see Server Hosting and Server Configuration.
  • Custom map rotations and game mode settings can be configured via the Holdfast SDK.
